Twin Cities Film Fest – City Pages

This week the Twin Cities Film Fest returns for another 10-day gathering, further cementing its status as one of the best up-and-coming film festivals in the nation. In 2015, it will be continuing its mission to not only celebrate film both independent and mainstream, but also spotlight Minnesota talent. One of those local films is Jug Band Hokum, a documentary about Minneapolis’ yearly Battle of the Jug Bands. The documentary, directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and musician Jack Norton, features appearances by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Garrison Keillor, and Charlie Parr. The critically acclaimed Room, starring Brie Larson and William H. Macy, has been well received at festivals all over the nation, and is garnering Oscar buzz. The 33, a film about the Chilean miners who were stuck under a collapsed mine for 69 days, is also generating quite a bit of interest. In addition to screenings, Academy Award-nominated actor John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) will be making an appearance, as well as other actors and filmmakers. Other related happenings include cocktail mixers, filmmaker receptions, and red carpet interviews and photo ops. Check www.twincitiesfilmfest.org for full lineup, tickets, and showtimes.
